When the workers of the organization spoke to the street and working children through phone calls, it was found that the Corona era has taken away the support of living of both mother and father. People are no longer calling women working in slums, the situation is that for a few days with some saving money, as if work is going on but due to non-work, living is becoming difficult now. The children told that now mummy papa does not even have money so that we can buy ration. Problems are increasing day by day.
One child told that we have a family of 6 people. Papa used to run away with junk and their mother used to earn money by selling flower garlands in temples. But now the work is closed due to the closure of the temple and also the father’s ferry. Ration water is also a big problem in the house. To meet these needs, the father used to run the household expenses by demanding money borrowed from relatives. But in view of the increasing lockdown, now relatives are also refusing to lend, due to which it has become difficult to live now because there is no money left for rationing.
Another child told that his mother and father could not go to work due to the lockdown. Due to which there is a financial crisis in the house, his sister is ill, which costs a lot in the treatment. That is why he earns money by consuming junk and from that he knows the expenses of the house and treatment of his sister just like that.
While talking, a child started crying, stating his problem and saying that due to thunderstorms and strong wind, the foil of my hut burst and now the rainwater has filled my hut, all the goods, and our books have also got wet. Huh. Mosquitoes have become abundant due to rainwater, due to which we are not able to sleep at night. Due to the lockdown, the father does not even have the money to get the hut repaired. The recent rains have put another burden on these people living in settlements in these difficult times.
When the organization workers spoke to the parents of these children, they told that the parents who used to work as domestic help in the houses are also afraid that they may not be called to work for a long time even after the lockdown opens.
